Director of Mediation

Summary
Advoz, a leading provider of mediation and conflict services in Central Pennsylvania, seeks an organized, dynamic, and experienced professional to fill the crucial role of Director of Mediation.

The right candidate will possess the following:

  • Strong ability to promote the work and benefits of mediation to the larger community.
  • A comprehensive understanding of mediation and restorative practices and the value it brings to individuals and organizations.
  • Applicable work with volunteers.
  • At least two years of professional human services experience or equivalent.
  • Self-management skills with organized and detailed-oriented work practices.
  • Willingness to market and “sell” as well as to deliver mediation to individuals and organizations.
  • Bachelor’s degree in mediation/conflict studies or equivalent experience.

Responsibilities Include:

I. Leading and Developing the Mediation Program

  1. Expand the partnerships and other connections in Lancaster County to grow the mediation program.
  2. In collaboration with the Director of Strategic Initiatives, develop and implement strategies and operational plans to expand the mediation program to additional school districts, non-profits, and local businesses.
  3. Develop and drive new mediation programs and initiatives in collaboration with the Director of Strategic Initiatives
  4. Manage the Case Manager to shape and track quarterly goals to build a quality program and a team of engaged volunteers.
  5. Oversee all referrals, including intake, mediator assignment, venue allocation, and follow-up, to ensure timely communication with clients and mediators.
  6. Report to the Executive Director to establish goals for programmatic and personal growth.

II. Lead the Program Outreach & Administration

  1. Attract, Recruit, train, deploy and retain an increasingly diverse group of volunteers.
  2. Expand the personal and organizational connection with the Advoz mediation volunteers.
  3. Manage the Case Manager to develop team processes to respond quickly to referrals and do case management as needed.
  4. Engage diverse community sectors about how and why meditation is effective, including telling mediation stories and outcomes that have changed lives.
  5. Attend any external meetings to represent Advoz to the community.
  6. Report monthly to the Program Committee on numbers and program development.
  7. Attend conferences, workshops, seminars, and meetings to learn about and represent the unique and ongoing practices in mediation.
  8. Assist with (and participate in if needed) circle processes that result from a mediation case.

III. Collaborate in Training Delivery

  1. Ensure mentorship with new and existing volunteers.
  2. Identify areas of training gaps and needs for volunteer mediators.
  3. In collaboration with the Director of Strategic Initiatives and Training, schedule and implement initial and continuing education for volunteer mediators.
  4. In collaboration with the Director of Strategic Initiatives and Training, develop and implement a training evaluation plan.

Desired Skills and Qualifications

  • Demonstrated understanding of mediation and restorative practices and the value it brings.
  • Commitment to and preference toward mediation as a way of embracing conflict and differences
  • Experience working with volunteers and/or interns in a professional capacity.
  • Excellent oral/written communication and presentation skills.
  • Be willing to be trained in Advoz mediation techniques and take cases when needed.
  • Be able to coach staff and volunteers in challenges in handling cases and managing timelines.
  • Be able to handle multiple workstreams, to work independently and in a team.
  • Possess 2+ years of professional human services experience or equivalent.
  • Bachelor’s degree in mediation/conflict studies or equivalent experience.
  • Proficient in MS Office.
  • A valid driver’s license and occasional use of a personal vehicle

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Education or experience in mediation/facilitation and or human services
  • Spanish language proficiency

Work occurs primarily during office hours in downtown Lancaster, PA (8:30 am – 4:30 pm) with the expectation of occasional weekend and evening meetings with clients, volunteers, and special events.

Pay: $40,000.00 – $50,000.00 per year
